Last time, traveling away from Death House, DJ caught the scent of death coming from the pine forest off the side of the road. Mathias and Firestorm decided to investigate while the rest of the group stayed firmly on the old muddy road. About 15 feet into the forest, Mathias and Firestorm found a corpse of a man wearing simple clothing. On him, they found a letter from Kolyan Indirovich (the Burgomaster of Barovia) pleading for someone to help save his daughter from certain evil.
Eventually the group came upon the village of Barovia. There were very few people out on the dark, cold, rainy streets of this small village. Though they did meet an old woman selling vegetable and meat pies from a cart. Everyone except Bubblegum and DJ bought and ate the pies, which had a strange effect on Firestorm and Corvid, who instantly fell under a trance. Upon asking the old woman, she admitted there was a spell in her pies that brought people the most wonderful dreams and an escape from this dreary land.
After meeting Ireena who clearly had a vampire bite on her neck and admitted she was fed upon by Strahd, the group agreed to help the siblings, then stayed in the mansion for the night. During the night, Mathias and Bubblegum witnessed a visitation by Strahd who offered his condolences and reminded Ismark of his duties as the new Burgomaster of Barovia.
The next morning, the group headed to the Church to ask Father Donovich to help give Kolyan his final service. As the group walked through the village and up the hill, they noticed some wolves following them at distance. Once arrived, the left the coffin outside and Corvid, companied by Ismark went into the church to fetch the priest as the rest of the group stayed outside. Meanwhile, the group noticed more and more wolves gathering in the distance and from the church came a desperate cry of agony followed by a voice screaming, “Father, I’m hungry!”
